Yoga for Dancers
Jennifer's top 3 yoga poses for young dancers for Dance Spirit Magazine.
Eagle legs, inchworm feet, triceps dips, leg extension and incline plane.
Down and Out
Working with down and out direction of legs, just like in my dancer days.
Standing forward bend, bent knees for knee/armpit snuggle, squat with flat back, upward hand pose variation, side bends & squat. Listen to the church bells.
Kathy Grant cat
Back from Spring break at LIU Brooklyn in the sunny studio with some ankle stretching (please use a blanket), a Kathy Grant cat, Sphinx with Cat/Cow, Beats and a Dog pose.
Lazy and Refreshing
Some lazy, refreshing movement: Sitting knees side to side, add an arm swing and finally Z sit. What does that give you?
Seated Warm Up
Arms up, Elbows in back pockets, Add hitchhiker thumbs, Dive bomb, Wrist stretch, Thigh pressure for hip opening, Side bend and Twist.
Shoulder work: cactus arms open and close the door, down cactus/up cactus. Then open and close, add smooth the table cloth and down/up. Freestyle to finish.
SLO Mo Bicycle
SLO mo bicycle circles, relaxing completely between each move. Practicing using as little effort as possible. Then bicycle circles quick and big.
Warrior 2, Side angle, Lunge, Down Dog, L-Shaped handstand, Forward bend on wall and tah dah.
Warm Up Any Which Way
Any moves = warm up. Here: hip isolations like in any jazz class and shoulder moves including fast walk arms, push/pull with some twisting and straight elbow shoulder circles and shrugs.
